NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) — Tsunami warnings which were issued for parts of Alaska on early Friday morning have been canceled, officials said. No destructive tsunami has been observed.

The warning was issued for coastal areas of Alaska from Unimak Pass to Amchitka Pass after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck 27 miles (45 miles) southwest of Amukta Island, a small uninhabited island between the Fox Islands and the Andreanof Islands in the Aleutian Islands.

Casualties are not expected as the region is sparsely populated.
